5 out of 5 stars A Fun Name Book - Where We Found OUR Sons Name!   November 13, 2008

This book was a lot more fun and complete than other baby name books. This is where we picked our new 3 week old son's name (Colton). The definitions and descriptions for names in this book are humorous and accurate, and the book has a "key" for names on the rise, decline, or are unisex. A great resource. If you're going to get only one baby name book, this is the one!

5 out of 5 stars Entertaining the road of sooo many options   November 5, 2008

I have used and am using this book for naming my children. It's not your typical list of names, meanings and origins (But they do include that information also). There are author comments that are pretty amusing and sometimes helpful and give the book an actual read. After going through soooo many names, it's nice to have something to actually read, even if you may not always agree. They also break it up a bit by adding mini name lists within the pages (You can even hunt them down in the table of contents). There's also indications of raising and falling popularity, unisex, author favorites and spelling alternatives. The font won't hurt your eyes and the names are spaced enough so you won't get lost on the page. My favorite baby name book for years to come!

5 out of 5 stars Worked For Us   September 19, 2008

If you can't find a name in this book, than you're making up something completely obscure anyway (please don't do that). It worked for us.

4 out of 5 stars One of my faves.   July 13, 2008

As a self-proclaimed "name geek" and collector of baby name books, I list this among my top 5 favorite baby name books. No, it does not include definitions and origins for every name, but that is what the majority of other books do. This book however, provides expert opinions. Really, knowing that a name means "noble worlf" is not near as important as knowing that it will always be associated with a horrific ruler (or perhaps a not-so-pleasant word...or whatever else you can think of). It also helps some to know where the world is in their naming style. Is the world ready for Lois to come back...probably not. But, they seem to be ready for other old-fashioned favorites.

3 out of 5 stars Unique names   March 26, 2008

My wife bought this book when she was pregnant after we disagreed so much on our first child's name. I was offended by the BIBLE title as we are Muslim but I was so shocked to discover some Muslim names, even Somali. I would recommend this if you are struggling with finding unique names.
